CORE DENIM SET 01

What pissed me off was that whenever I found jeans I really liked, the choice of color basically didn’t exist. Black. White. Classic denim. And I wanted more. The problem was, color alone wasn’t enough either. We started with classic denim and quickly realized it was too stiff. I wanted denim that still looked and behaved like denim, but gave me freedom of movement. I couldn’t find that kind of fabric in the colors I wanted.

So we started making it ourselves. And that’s where the fun began. First attempt. Second. Third. We softened the fabric seven times. Each time we got closer, but it still wasn’t right. It took us a month. A month of fucking around with a piece of denim until I finally touched it and said: okay. Now it’s right. Then came the details. I didn’t want an ordinary zipper. If we’re making a zipper, it needs to have the same class as the zipper on a great jacket.

So we gave it pullers with our engraving. The snaps are metal. Cool under your fingers. Heavy enough for you to feel them. A little like a casino chip. And, of course, the pockets. Because why should the inside of a pocket be made carelessly just because no one sees it most of the time? For the white ones, we used viscose. For the black ones, silk. That’s exactly the kind of excess I like. And once we finally had the right denim, I went back to the problem that started it all.

Color. Black? We’ve got it. White? We’ve got it. But if I want blood red, I make blood red. If I want pink that looks like strawberries and cream, I make pink that looks like strawberries and cream. I’m not going to change my jeans just because I want to change the color. The same cut. The same softness. The same stretch. A different color. These are the jeans I was looking for myself, and no one wanted to make them the way I wanted.

So we made them ourselves. CORE DENIM SET. Karl Tomas. Denim our way. No questions asked about what color it “should” be.
